World Meeting of Families – THANK YOU

Published on September 9, 2018

The 9th World Meeting of Families was held in Dublin, Ireland. This International Meeting (21-26 August 2018) also reached Rathvilly Kiltegan Parish in a big way.
We’ve had an amazing week hosting our visitors from abroad. Our World Meeting of Families is extremely grateful for the support received from the whole community. The sponsorship and help received from parishioners, from people in neighbouring parishes, many local businesses and those of surrounding areas has been overwhelming. The generous assistance we have been offered was immense. Words of thanks will never be enough to express how valued these contributions have been both to our committee and our pilgrims. We are extremely proud of our parish for achieving such a successful hosting experience. In the aftermath of the World Meeting, we are filled with emotion – joy, pride, gratitude and a little sadness too that our journey has reached its conclusion. Thank you to one and all!
As Parish Priest, I wish to acknowledge the huge commitment of the Committee who worked so well together. Nothing was too much for them. My deepest appreciation to you for your energy, the huge amount of time dedicated to this project, your creativity and ingenuity expressed in lots of ways. Well done to Nigel Byrne, Sophie Kelly, Trish Leonard, Eithne Molloy and Bríd Saruwatari. In microcosm we have experienced the great positive joy of working together, being the Church in Action and reaching out beyond our normal experience. The success achieved would not have been possible without the co-operation of a very large number of people. Whatever role you played, it was a vital part of the whole.
Sincere thanks.
Fr. John
